Getting married at Castello di Celsa in Tuscany is a dream come true. Here, in one of Italy’s most renowned regions for wedding celebrations, thanks to its idyllic landscapes, art cities, delicious cuisine, and culture of excellent craftsmanship, Jonathon and Julianna chose to celebrate their special day. Among the many villas available for weddings in Tuscany, Castello di Celsa is undoubtedly one of the most charming, located between the beautiful Siena and San Gimignano. If you are looking for a dream location for your wedding in Tuscany, Castello di Celsa is definitely worth considering.
Perched in a panoramic position overlooking the surrounding territory, it has been owned by the same family for about four centuries. Originally dating back to the 13th century, the castle was renovated in the 16th century by the Sienese family of Celsi, with the intervention of the architect Baldassarre Peruzzi. The architect added to the original structure a splendid circular chapel and a terracing wall adorned with niches parallel to the access road. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands but remained at the center of Tuscany’s artistic and cultural vitality thanks to its proximity to the wonderful cities of Siena and Florence.
The walls and towers of Castello di Celsa have witnessed many historic events that have left their mark on the surrounding territory. In 1554, the castle was devastated by the imperial troops of Charles V, but the Celsi family did not abandon the structure and instead commissioned a generous restoration shortly after, which in the sixteenth century revealed a highly original planimetric form, with a trapezoidal inner courtyard delimited towards the valley by a mighty wall with three large arches that lead to the two subsequent terraces descending towards the large Italian-style garden. All around is the large Park of the Castle, equipped with a swimming pool, which merges with the surrounding green hills.
Over the centuries, ownership of Castello di Celsa changed hands until it eventually ended up in possession of the noble De Vecchi family of Siena, who maintained ownership until the mid-19th century. Following this, the property was passed down as a dowry to the Antinori family, of which Maria Antinori Aldobrandini, daughter of Giulia De Vecchi and great-grandmother of the current owners, commissioned architect Mariani to undertake further transformations of the castle, including raising the eastern tower and crowning it with battlements, elevating the structure to the splendor that it retains to this day.
Nowadays, Castello di Celsa stands as one of the jewels of Renaissance architecture, typical of Tuscany, and an artwork nestled amidst verdant greenery. Its beauty remains frozen in history, and its walls offer an unparalleled setting to celebrate a dream wedding where intimate friends and close relatives can participate and enjoy the special day.
Among the many couples who have discovered the perfect place to celebrate their special day, Jonathon and Julianna chose the Castello di Celsa. Originally from Texas, the newlyweds were drawn to this breathtaking venue nestled among the Tuscan hills for its romantic and intimate ambiance, immersed in nature, and with ample open spaces for their closest friends and family to enjoy. Let’s be honest, who hasn’t dreamed of getting married in a castle at least once in their lifetime?
The ceremony took place at the foot of the castle’s tallest tower, where the 16th-century Chapel, designed by the renowned architect Baldassarre Peruzzi, is located. Surrounded by the castle walls, Italian Garden, and Park, the Chapel provided the perfect backdrop for Jonathon and Julianna’s unforgettable wedding, as they exchanged vows in a bygone era of romance and splendor. The region’s beauty, known to Peruzzi so well as a native, was reflected in every corner of the castle, making it a true masterpiece of Renaissance architecture that has remained frozen in history.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds and their loved ones were able to admire the Italian Garden and its geometries traced by the boxwood plants, appreciate the climbers that adorn the Castle’s towers with the colors of the seasons throughout the year, and stroll through the vast green spaces of the Park. As evening approached, all the guests went to Villa Olimpia, a charming villa nestled in the Tuscan hills, to enjoy a luxurious dinner in a unique and fascinating environment. The villa, situated in the splendid region that spans from Arezzo to Siena, from San Gimignano to Florence, is one of Tuscany’s most refined settings where guests can relish in the flavors of tradition while surrounded by the region’s lush wooded hills.
To commemorate the unforgettable day that Jonathon and Julianna experienced, they entrusted a professional videomaking service to create a documentary film of their wedding. The couple wished for the video to capture and convey the unique and intense emotions of those special moments through the images, so they could relive them again and again. The result is an emotional and romantic wedding video that perfectly blends the magical and solemn atmosphere of Castello di Celsa in Tuscany with the intimacy of their union. This video will forever preserve the indelible images of that special day shared with their closest relatives and friends.
